Excellent staff, center and care. Very thankful I got Dr. Rossi, he is kind, helpful and a pioneer in this field. Much less side effects than traditional treatment. 1st psa test is down to normal parameters. I like how they talk about diet as well. The staff in the financial department made this possible for me as well. A great experience all the way around !

I would not recommend this place, particularly Dr. James Urbanik. Not going to get into the details of my situation but suffice it to say there was a lot that was left to be desired as far as unprofessional staff and mishandling of various issues to include Dr. Urbanik himself. Urbanik also works at UCSD so if you encounter him there I suggest you avoid and find a different doctor. Beware!

My experience was one of bait and switch. Needed radiation to the neck area and was intrigued by the idea that it would be "targeted". Initial call to representative was set up almost like a sales call at first. She actually told me that our treatments are different. I said how? She said your only on the table for 5 minutes of radiation. I said great. Once I signed the forms I got the real information and a 3 week out appointment to come back and be "mapped" as they call it. Well here is where the actuall nurses step in and tell you how it really is?? They first fit you for a mask that your "locked down" on the table. i'm claustrophobic and I told them this will not work for me. The head nurse came in and tried to calm ne down and I said if its only 5 minutes I guess I can do it. This is where she said and I quote " No your particular case you will be on the table for up 45 minutes" while the beams recharge. I got up said I can't do this and walked out. Also, they would not let me sign up unless I attended the seminar on their procedures. I spoke to the lead doctor at the seminar and he told me that they would do the procedure without the mask and that he would personally speak to the team. But when I got there 3 weeks later nobody knew what I was talking about and they never treat patients without a "lock down mask" for head and neck. Wasted over a month and had am awful experience.

I had the best experience at California Protons. I can’t speak highly enough of Dr. Iain MacEwan. I’m from out of town so Zoom pre & post treatment calls were easy & he’d share the screen to review my imaging and explain the results with me so it was easy to understand.His demeanor is so uplifting & positive which is a big breath of fresh air when going through such an uncertain time. Additionally, the techs were all great & the staff came out to celebrate & ring the bell when finished. They made it a special moment & I really appreciated that as my Oncologist office did nothing so It meant a lot that they took the time to celebrate finishing treatment.

My mom was diagnosed with triple negative invasive carcinoma breast cancer in November of 2022. She didn’t want to do more damage to her body or immune system with the radiation and chemicals the chemo would cause so she started searching for different treatments options other than the traditional radiation & chemotherapy. She eventually came across the California Proton Cancer Center in San Diego & it was nothing short of a miracle and blessing! My mom’s cancer is gone, she had very minimal side effects from the treatment which is amazing because she has a very weak immune system from an autoimmune condition, 58% kidney function as well as cy-tomegalovirus. She also had no hair loss, she just felt tired after the 2nd week but nothing unbearable she said. The staff there were so kind and supportive during her entire treatment, which really helped keep her spirits high and that was so important for her as well since she also battles depression and a big part of fighting cancer is staying hopeful and mentally healthy. I am so grateful for California Proton Center and all their staff, thank you guys so much for all you do!!

I had rare skin cancer. Protons therapy dried it successfully out of my nose and head! I washed the dead tissue out with saline and soda. I'm cancer free thanks to the team Proton clinic! I felt like at home there...

Ten years later I’m still alive & well. ΗIgh grade BRCA mutated IDC prostate cancer didn’t kill me with Dr. Carl Rossi & his teams help. I’ve had no recurrence, no evidence of disease, just life as we’d all like to live it. Treatment discomforts were minor & my wife & I got a beach vacation in San Diego. I wasn’t ‘sold’ — I’m an engineer, did my homework & came in buying into the best prostate cancer treatment technology, Dosimitrists/Physicists &:patient care techs in the field. If I could have found better capability on earth I’d have gone anywhere. Cancer docs don’t like to say “healed”. Well, now they tell me I’m healed.Ask all the questions you possibly can. Cart Rossi will answer every one.The Bragg Peak works. X-rays best treatments can’t do that (study up, check it out.)This is not a commercial. This is my very personal experience. X-ray IMRT RadOncs may give this kind of review the stink eye. I say it’s because their training & employers don’t;won’t fund the additional work to go to the best tech — you’ll hear perhaps faint-praise of pencil beam proton therapy (with conical beam CT positioning) implying patients aren’t getting the whole story. Balogney. Ask Dr. Carl for real data, he’s got it. Medicare covers it for a reason.The Bragg Peak works.

This place is HUGE! There is a great lobby for the family and support partners in care to hang while your loved one is getting their treatment. There is free coffee and vending machines with snacks and drinks. There are also multiple tables with puzzles as well as other games to play.My son had his “simulation appointment” this week. This is where they made a personalized mask to keep his head in place during radiation to his brain. They also put him on a motorized bed to simulate the movement of the proton machine. We feel very blessed to have a proton center so close to home. He will need 30 cycles of proton rotation. We are so grateful that this type of radiation is so precise and will not disperse throughout his young body. The doctor we met with over telemedicine made us feel very comfortable and confident. Thank you Dr. Chou!So far working with this center has been a very good and positive experience.

I regret getting this treatment. I fell prey to the desperation that comes with late stage cancer when options become few. I can appreciate the potential for killing cancer that proton radiation therapy provides, in theory. It just didn’t work for me, I got worse.I also wasn’t impressed with the care and advice I received from the Dr’s. I only saw Dr. Chang once during the consultation / sales phase of the process. Although I asked questions, I wasn’t informed of the potential risks, beyond generic risks, not risks based on my case, my body. After treatment there is no follow up consolation or even interest in discussing the results. Aren’t they curious? Not so much.The technicians were kind and professional. They also presented me with a small pile of corporate merchandise that I’m sure made the corp merch sales rep very proud. I hope they got a good bulk rate deal. One item was a metal medal with my number on it! The number represents the number of patients that have completed the treatment. I have never felt more like a number in my life. That was the goal, not my healing.#4471

From my first call to the completion of treatment it was nothing short of scintillating. And the results are there to prove it I've been cancer free for 18 months

I was a patient here in 2015 and treated by Dr. Rossi for Hodgkins Lymphoma. I was in my early 20s and came here in the hopes it'd mitigate the damages of radiation treatment. At first I felt that I was in competent hands but now I know I was wrong. I'm now dealing with radiation induced thyroid cancer as a consequence of Dr. Rossi's treatment plan. My thyroid could have been avoided entirely but he was too aggressive in his approach and now I'm dealing with the consequences. I really regret being treated here. Please, please go elsewhere and choose a clinic that values your future health and quality of life!

Dr. Carl Rossi began caring for me since 2003 while he was at Loma Linda University Proton Center. I was thrilled when I learned he was now at California Protons Treatment Center. I have now been there for the treatment of three separate cancer issues.This is a five star medical treatment facility with the most modern equipment and staffed by "10 Star" physicians and support staff. They are all wonderful and treat you like you were family.In 2003, I was given a prognosis of "You have a slight chance of survival" by six separate Oncologists in Tucson. It is now 19 years later. I thank God for Dr. Rossi and his family of caregivers who have allowed me to survive, and with a high quality of life "to boot"

This place is awesome. I came in for 25 sessions in Brest cancer treatment and I have nothing but good things to say about my experience. The people here are super dedicated, professional and humane. These girls took care of me and earned a place in my heart forever. Thank you for everything. 😊

If I could give them 10 stars I would. The whole staff is amazing and made my journey throughout the treatments extremely pleasant. It was a bittersweet moment during my last visit. I enjoyed and looked forward with each visit due to the staff and then it came to an end 😢. From the front door to all the way to the back where I got my daily zap of radiation was AWESOME! Took me by surprise when I received my graduation gifts on the last visit. This place and the staff will always be remembered as a great experience for me.
